Long gone are the days when traditional metal braces were the only option to straighten teeth. Because of the numerous advantages it offers, Invisalign® is a popular choice among our adult patients. While you may have heard of Invisalign, you probably have questions regarding treatment. Read on for answers to the most common questions about Invisalign.
Common Questions and Answers Regarding Invisalign
Here are some of the most common questions we often receive about Invisalign and our answers.
What is Invisalign?
- Invisalign is the most well-known brand of clear aligners. The process involves using a series of clear aligner trays to transition teeth into the desired placement. The trays are removable, and we recommend patients wear their trays for as long as possible each day, but no less than 22 hours a day.
Are There Food Restrictions?
- Patients love that the Invisalign trays are removable. This allows them to enjoy their favorite foods and drinks with no restrictions. Be sure to know where your trays are at all times when you are eating. Do not wrap your trays in a tissue or napkin.
Am I required to visit your office regularly?
- One of the biggest benefits of Invisalign treatment is that your treatment is planned out before you start wearing your first set of aligner trays. You will receive a certain number of trays at a time. We do require a few appointments to check the progress of the transition, but the appointments are much less frequent than if you were wearing traditional braces.
Is It Easy to Care For Your Teeth and the Trays?
- As with eating, since the trays are removable, you can easily brush and care for your teeth the same way as before. We will review the proper way to clean your trays, but it is important to note that if you do not follow our guidelines, the trays can become damaged, lengthening your treatment time.
