A Better Way to Take Dental Impressions
If you’ve been a patient with us for a while, you may remember the days of traditional dental impressions: a tray filled with impression material that you held in your mouth while it set. It worked, but let’s be honest — it wasn’t anyone’s favorite part of an appointment. The good news is that dentistry continues to evolve, and one of the biggest improvements we’ve made is how we capture impressions of your teeth. Watch the video to learn more.
Out With the Putty, In With Digital Scanning
We recently shared a video comparing traditional impressions and digital scanning, and the results are pretty impressive. With traditional impressions, we used trays and impression material to create a mold of your teeth. We could then pour a stone model right here in the office, giving us something we could study and use to explain your treatment. It was a reliable process, but today’s technology allows us to do even better.
A Faster, More Comfortable Experience
Our digital scanner captures a detailed 3D image of your teeth in less than a minute. Instead of biting into impression material, we simply move a small handheld scanner around your mouth while it creates an incredibly accurate digital model.
For many patients, one of the biggest benefits is comfort. There’s no messy material, no waiting for impressions to set, and for those with a sensitive gag reflex, it’s a much easier experience. It’s one of those small changes that can make a big difference in how comfortable your appointment feels.
More Accuracy Means Better Care
Digital impressions aren’t just faster. They’re also extremely precise. That level of accuracy helps us plan treatment with confidence and communicate more effectively with the dental laboratory.
Whether we’re creating a crown, planning restorative treatment, or evaluating your bite, having a highly detailed digital model helps us deliver care that’s tailored specifically to you. Better information helps us make better decisions, and that’s something every patient can appreciate.
Your Smile Is Always Within Reach
One of our favorite advantages of digital technology is that your scan doesn’t disappear once your appointment is over. Your digital records are securely stored, making it easy to reference them later if we need to compare changes, create another model, or communicate with our laboratory. Instead of starting from scratch, we already have the information we need right at our fingertips. It also makes collaboration smoother and more efficient, helping us provide consistent care over time.
Technology That Works for You
We love bringing new technology into our practice, but not just because it’s new. We invest in it because it genuinely improves your experience. If something helps make your appointment more comfortable, provides better accuracy, or helps us explain your treatment more clearly, it’s worth it. We believe technology should make dentistry feel simpler, not more complicated. That’s exactly what digital scanning does.
Come Experience the Difference
If you haven’t experienced a digital scan yet, we think you’ll be pleasantly surprised by how quick and easy the process is. As always, thank you for trusting us with your smile. We enjoy sharing the latest advancements with you because we believe you deserve care that’s both comfortable and precise.
If you’re due for your next appointment or have questions about how digital technology supports your care, we’d love to see you. Schedule an appointment at our office located on the Upper East Side, and we’ll be happy to show you firsthand how modern dentistry is making every appointment a little easier.
