How Well Are You Sleeping At Night?
Do you have daytime sleepiness? Do you snore or wake from your sleep? Do you feel fatigued during the day? Do you have high blood pressure? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may be suffering from sleep apnea. Sleep apnea is a very serious condition that greatly affects your overall health. It can lead to a number of serious health complications and, when left untreated, it can take a number of years off your life. Dr. Krochak recently created a video explaining a popular treatment method he uses in his practice that offers many benefits for the patient. Click here to watch the video and learn more about this life-changing device.
What is Sleep Apnea?
Sleep apnea is an extremely serious sleep disorder where patients frequently start and stop breathing through the night. Warning signs of this condition can include loud snoring, extreme fatigue, and waking frequently during the night. If it remains untreated, it can lead to serious health complications such as high blood pressure, stroke and cardiovascular disease. It can also take 8-10 years off of your life expectancy. We cannot stress enough that patients should not ignore symptoms.
Treatment Plan
For many years, the CPAP machine was highly recommended; however, due to many complications, restrictions and negative side-effects, only 50% of patients use the device. That means 1 out of 2 patients remain untreated. As Dr. Krochak explains in the video, he recommends a proper fitting dental device to patients. A dental device that is designed by our office is almost as effective as a CPAP machine and offers many more benefits to our patients. The proper fit of the device and the proper metrics of moving the jaw are extremely important to success and comfort.
Moses Device
As Dr. Krochak explains in the video, he recommends a Moses device that is similar to a mouth guard. It fits over the top teeth and brings the lower jaw forward opening the airway. This placement of the jaw and tongue eliminates the obstruction of the tongue allowing better airflow. Patients love this device because it is:
- Portable
- Cleanable
- Durable
