If either of these sounds like you, there is a chance you may be suffering from an extremely common sleep problem known as sleep apnea. Millions of Americans suffer from this condition each year. What is Sleep Apnea?
If you or a loved one struggles with getting quality sleep, sleep apnea may be the problem. People with this common condition repeatedly stop breathing for brief moments during the night. In severe cases, this occurs hundreds of times a night! Sleep apnea is extremely harmful to your overall health and can lead to serious health concerns over time. It is common for people with sleep apnea to develop
- high blood pressure,
- cardiovascular disease,
- obesity, and
- memory problems.
Not to mention that dealing with extreme exhaustion can lead to accidents, trouble in the workplace, and issues with mood and behavior.
How Do We Treat Sleep Apnea?
There are many different treatment options for sleep apnea. One common treatment we find highly successful with our patients is an oral appliance that they wear while sleeping. Sleep apnea is often caused by weak throat muscles that collapse during sleep. An oral appliance will reposition the jaw, keeping the airway open to prevent sleep apnea and snoring.
