Options For Straightening Teeth — Not Just Braces
Would you love to straighten your teeth but have been delaying treatment because you are not interested in wearing traditional metal braces? Although metal braces are an effective treatment option, they are not for everyone. With the many advances in orthodontic treatments, there are other choices that can provide the same results. Dr. Perlman recently contributed to two WebMD.com articles explaining more about alternatives to traditional metal braces. Continue reading to learn more and for the links to the articles featuring Dr. Perlman.
Alternatives to Traditional Braces
We have many patients interested in straightening their teeth for aesthetic reasons and also to improve the function of the teeth. However, they have no interest in wearing traditional metal braces. They are not fond of the look of the metal on their teeth and do not want to deal with the discomfort that comes along with this form of orthodontic treatment. Dr. Perlman explains the alternative methods in a recent Wed MD.com article, and you can learn more about the treatments he recommends below: https://www.webmd.com/connect-to-care/teeth-straightening/does-underbite-correction-require-braces
Invisalign®
There is another popular treatment method we recommend to many of our patients — Invisalign®. Invisalign® treatment uses clear aligner trays to transition the teeth into the desired position. This treatment is well received among our patients due to the many benefits such as the ability to remove the trays and the lack of food restrictions. Invisalign® can treat a number of issues with the teeth, including underbites, as Dr. Perlman mentions in the article above. In a separate article, Dr. Perlman goes into further detail about the ways Invisalign® can move the teeth: “Clear aligners allow us to move teeth forwards/backwards, up and down, and even [rotate] them into the proper position.” More information on this topic can be found in the following article: https://www.webmd.com/connect-to-care/teeth-straightening/can-i-use-clear-aligners-if-only-my-bottom-teeth-are-crowded
Cosmetic Bonding and Porcelain Veneers
If you are not interested in any form of orthodontic treatment to correct issues such as an underbite, we have other ways to improve the alignment of your teeth. Although not an option for all patients, cosmetic bonding and porcelain veneers are other methods that Dr. Perlman shares in the first article mentioned above: “Another alternative to metal braces is cosmetic bonding and/or porcelain veneers, which improve the overall esthetic of a smile and can be used if the back molars are aligned properly.”
