Bonding Or Veneers: Which One Will Transform Your Smile?
When it comes to damaged, misaligned, or irregularly shaped teeth, you’ve got a few options at your disposal. Two of the most popular are cosmetic bonding and veneers. If you’re wondering what the difference is and which treatment would work best for your smile, we’ve got you!
Keep reading to learn the basics of cosmetic bonding and veneers.
A Confident Smile Can Be Yours!
Your smile is one of your greatest assets, and yours deserves to look perfect. Dental bonding and veneers can give you the smile you’re dreaming of if you have:
- chipped or cracked teeth
- worn tooth enamel
- stubborn staining
- broken teeth
- a gummy smile
- irregularly shaped teeth
Which treatment should you choose? That depends on your ultimate goal and the number of teeth involved. Here’s a brief description of each treatment:
Cosmetic Bonding
Dental or cosmetic bonding is the process of applying a special resin to cover up minor imperfections. The tooth-colored composite material is molded to fit the desired shape and is great for small gaps, cracks, chips, and discoloration. One of the biggest advantages is that dental bonding can be done in one visit. Compared to veneers, though, bonding has a limited scope and is best for correcting minor issues only.
Veneers
Veneers are thin porcelain shells molded to fit the front surfaces of teeth. Veneers are great for moderate problems like large cracks and gaps, extensive discoloration, and irregularly shaped teeth. Because veneers are custom made out of dental-grade porcelain, they are more versatile and longer lasting than dental bonding. However, veneers take more time, usually requiring at least two visits: one for the consultation, impressions, and X-rays, and a second around four weeks later after the veneers have been created.
Which Is Better?
Now that you know the basics, which treatment should you choose? As you can see, there’s some overlap in what each one can treat. Generally, we recommend veneers for larger issues like irregular teeth or wider gaps. We also like to use veneers if you wish to hide multiple cosmetic flaws. If the issue is minor or you only have one or two teeth to fix, dental bonding should work. Of course, we’re always happy to discuss your options and help you understand the ins and outs of each treatment.
