The Benefits Of Modern Dental Technology
Technology is always innovating, but rarely do people think about dentistry as a source of innovation. Instead, they picture conventional dental tools like drills, metal scrapers, and water sprayers. Because we continue to use those tools daily, it’s easy to conclude that technology in the dental world hasn’t evolved much, but there are many advancements you may not be aware of.
At NYC Smile Spa, we’re committed to using the latest dental technology to ensure our patients receive the highest quality dental care possible and create a safer, more comfortable experience for everyone. Below are some examples of the advanced technology we use every day:
Laser Dentistry
Laser technology is revolutionizing dental diagnosis and treatment. For example, our office uses the DIAGNOdent™ laser. With this cutting-edge technology, we can find tiny cavities that are not even visible on X-rays — before they cause major damage. Identifying a cavity so early allows us to perform a minimally invasive bonding procedure to seal the area and preserve more natural tooth structure.
Intraoral Camera
An intraoral camera is about the size of a thick pen, and it captures high-resolution pictures of your teeth and gums. We can display the images on a computer screen during your appointment to show you exactly what’s happening inside your mouth. When you can see what we see, you gain a better understanding of your current oral health and our treatment recommendations. All of this allows you to be an active participant in your treatment plan and make more informed decisions about your oral care.
Painless Injections
Injections continue to be a sore spot for many patients. In order to create a better experience for fearful patients, our own Dr. Krochak helped develop a painless injection device that doesn’t use hypodermic syringes, which alone can trigger anxiety. The computer-controlled system injects anesthesia very precisely and is virtually painless.
iTero Digital Scanner
Our patients undergoing orthodontic treatment with Invisalign® are very familiar with the iTero digital scanner. The handheld device captures 3D digital images of teeth and gums, which we then use instead of conventional impressions to create custom clear aligners that fit perfectly. The images from the scanner can also be used to simulate treatment results even before the patient begins their Invisalign journey.
There have been numerous advancements in dental technology, and we use many of them in our office to enhance the patient experience. To see how far dentistry has come, be sure to schedule your next appointment at NYC Smile Spa, located on the Upper East Side.
